The
ICC World Cup 2023 will be the 13th edition of
the 50-over World Cup, and it will be hosted by India from
5 October to 19 November 2023. This will be the first time that India will be the sole host of the tournament, after having previously co-hosted the 1987, 1996, and 2011 tournaments with other countries on the Indian subcontinent.
The
tournament will feature ten teams, like the previous
edition. The main route for qualification will be the 2020–2023
ICC Cricket World Cup Super League tournament. The top seven
sides plus the hosts (India) from the thirteen competitors in the Super League
will qualify for the World Cup. The
remaining five teams, along with five Associate sides, will play in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which is
currently taking place in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July 2023, from which two teams will go through to the
final tournament.
The
tournament will follow a similar format to the 2019 edition in England and
Wales, with a round-robin stage followed by
the knockouts. All 10 teams will compete against each
other once in the round-robin stage. The top four teams at the end of the
round-robin stage will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of the two subsequent semi-finals will contest in the final, where the champion will be crowned.
England
are the defending champions heading into the
tournament, having won the trophy on home soil in 2019 after defeating New
Zealand in a thrilling final at Lord’s. Australia are the most successful team
in the history of the Cricket World Cup, having won the tournament a
record five times. West Indies and India have won the tournament twice, while England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each lifted the trophy once.

Qualifiers
for the 2023 ICC World Cup
The qualifiers are
taking place in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July 2023. The event will determine
the final two spots at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
The 10 teams taking
part in the qualifier are split into two groups of five teams. Hosts Zimbabwe,
the West Indies, the Netherlands, Nepal and the United States make up Group A,
while Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman and the United Arab Emirates form
Group B.
Each side will play the
other teams in their group once with the top three from each group progressing
to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, they will play the sides they did not
meet in the group stage. All points won in the group stage will be carried over
to the Super Six stage apart from those gained against the teams that fail to
make it to the Super Six stage. The finalists will both progress to the ICC
Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Queen’s Sports Club and
Bulawayo Athletic Club in Bulawayo, Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket
Club in Harare will share 34 matches between them, with Harare Sports Club
staging the final on 9 July. Old Hararians Cricket Club will also host warm-up
fixtures.
For the first time in
this tournament, DRS will be used for all matches from the Super Six stage
onwards.
