Global COVID-19 death toll surpasses 800,000

The number of deaths from the new corona virus has exceeded 800,000 worldwide.

Latin America and the Caribbean were the hardest hit by 254,897 deaths. More than half of the world's deaths have been reported in four countries: the United States with 175,416, Brazil with 113,358, Mexico with 59,610, and India with 55,794.

In total, 800,010 fatalities have been recorded globally, out of 23,003,100 declared infections.

Guitar player Eberardo Vargas, 49, said May, June and July were the busiest months he could remember as a Mexican as mourners in the municipality of Ecatepec, northeast of Mexico City, payed him and his band, during their final farewell, for the songs played to their lost loved ones.

The French Ministry of Health has reported 3,602 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, a small increase from Friday and a rise in cases since the lockdown earlier in the week.

The ministry said that in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths due to coronavirus in the country has increased by nine to 30,512.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says children 12 years of age and older should wear masks to help combat COVID-19 epidemics in adult-like conditions, while between the ages of six and 11 Children should wear them on a risk-based approach.

The WHO and UNICEF said children under the age of five should not be required to wear masks based on the child's safety and overall interest.
